Morago with the poet Andrea Zanzotto |
Morago attends the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, where he studies the great Masters of the past, and the Moderns. Those are the years spent racing among the shine of Pop, solitudes, skyscrapers and
post-war shacks, boredom, with the ”immortality“ of his colours, layered veils, never mixed:
since in my paintings there are no tricks. He is an artist who talks rapid, inspired.
Always living as if in a mirror, as someone who does not account for sleep nor night .
And there are strong testimonials when digging in his personal files: a mountain of tapes, monologues, for the most part nocturnal, stories, short circuit between his imaginary life and his gaze.
He travelled underground., then the emersion. Now we will tell of his diagonal of existential bewilderment and certainties as artist, forever sieged by too much impatience and haste.
But, as well, able of abstracting from this world, so to narrate it in strips of colour.
He has intersected the contradictions of our dramatic, suffering and exciting times, interpreting its spirit. Art-action, culture, ethics . The space of Art as experiment, as project.
Like a seismograph, or a comet, which descends from the podium of form and enters life .
Structuring, shaping, rousing time, forcing it to measure up with the live flesh of its present. In his Art-making, drawing vortices and fluxes, disorders and fugues, from Tintoretto, Rembrandt, Goya. In doing so, Morago delivers to us images like “ structures of an operating conscience “ as Sartre writes.
His artistic search, which initially moves towards figuration, later develops into a post-informal dense of colour suggestions, typical of the Venetian matrix .
Morago layers experiences, travels, visions, essences and alarmed sensations, of this hallucinating society. He travels much: “is essential to exit Italy, and see other artists, and measure up with them.“
Morago asserts that the Artist is “the eccentric”, he who resides by the limit, but who must weave the threads which tie to the centre, so to bring back to the human abode, his experience of the “desert“.
Morago experiments with many techniques: fresco, graphics, gouache, oil on canvas, since many years now, his preferred medium. In 1980 Morago has been at the Salons des Nations in Paris and then at the Palladio’s Hause in Vicenza. In 1989 at the Cà dei Carraresi in Treviso. In 1994 participated in the competition for a work of art to be placed in the new Palace of the European Council in Bruxelles. His piece was chosen by the critics of the European Union, among 1500 Italian artists. He is the sole painter called to represent his Country and exceptionally, he was there as well commissioned pieces of great dimensions, where his talent could be displayed.
He has been shown in important international places, like the Cini Foundation in Venice,in occasion of the Seminar-Exhibition Art , Tolerance and Intolerance, organized by Unesco/Paris in 1996, with the artists : César, Vedova and Kabakov. In 1998 he is at the Herbert von Karajan Zentrum in Vienna, and at the Prince Pierre of Montecarlo Foundation (Salon d’Hiver), guest of Princess Carole of Monaco and at the Pinacoteca A. Martini in Oderzo/Treviso (1999).
